What was your favorite part of the Health & Fitness Play? What was a special memory you’d like to share about the whole process – the auditions, the memorizing of your lines, the practices, the dress rehearsal, or the performances?
It’ time! What are your plans for Spring Break? Where are you going? What are you going to do? Who are you going with? What books are you planning on reading? Name one thing you hope happens over break!
Our Lincoln Hats on Parade Project will be due on February 9. The information you found at the library and from the group discussions we had in class, should give you some ideas for what to add to your hat. Remember, you are doing this instead of a written report, so your effort should show that. Your hat should focus on the person or group’s significance to Lincoln; should show some relevance to the subject researched; should be creative and have eye appeal; should be appropriate for the time era. You should be able to explain all of the things you add to your hat and make the connections to Abraham Lincoln. You may use the hat at any angle or upside-down.
Suggestions: The hat is flimsy, pick lightweight supplies. Focus on a few key ideas instead of trying to cover the hat with too many things.
While students are encouraged to get input and guidance from their families, most of the work should be completed by students. Have fun…enjoy….be creative!!
Questions? Comments? Concerns?
I am looking for parents to listen to students recite their lines for the play. The easiest times would be during the lunch time (11:45 – 12:30) but we might be able to work in other times as well depending upon Mr. Lund’s students’ schedules. Please let me know if you’d be able to help out with this important first step for our play’s production.
Fox Sports recently reported on a 66 year old man named Dr. Harvey SImon. He practices internal medicine and teaches at Harvard. Since October 30, 1978 he has run 10 miles everyday, never missing a day. He does not advise his patients to do this but says he does it because he can. He is in great physical shape and has run in all kinds of weather through all kinds of injuries. What do you think of this streak? Can you think of any activity you would like to do for the next 10, 987 days?
I’m sure you were all surprised by the cold day off of school today. I know I was! I was glad I hit my snooze alarm and hadn’t got out of bed yet. What are you doing today? Stay warm! If you are looking around online, see if you can get any bits and pieces of information to help us with our narrative essay. Remember the info needs to be about Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, or the Obama Family. Inaugeration Day is fast approaching!
What are you doing during your WInter Break? Going anywhere? Visiting any family? Any friends? Or, are you just doing homework? Tell us about it!
The day after the Presidential Election, the SJR had a political cartoon of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln “high-fivin”. Ask your parents and grandparents about their interpretation of this political cartoon to help us understand it better. Get your aunts and uncles involved, too, so we can get different people’s perspectives. We’ll use the comments for a writing assignment later in the school year.
We’ve got three weeks until the end-of-the first semester. What do you hope to get accomplished? How are you going to work at getting those things done? How will you stay focused with all of the other things going on in preparation for the Holidays?
